Introduction:

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking an adventure that covers both beautiful areas of high Gorkha district, located Nepal Mid North-West Himalaya in one of the most remote and isolated countries. Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trekking surely delights travellers visiting timeless villages adorned with rich Buddhist religion and culture of age-old heritage and simple and lively farming life in the harmony of pristine surroundings of Ganesh and Manaslu mountain range.

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking adventure first leads to Tsum valley also known as ‘Valley of Happiness’ where the name comes from ancient Tibetan origin languages known as Beyul Kyimolung which you will have the opportunity to explore around this mystical and marvellous country. Trekking first follows Buri-Gandaki River upstream and then heading further northeast behind massive Ganesh Himalaya range, within the hidden country of Tsum enjoy its fascinating villages and views including impressive old monasteries of great interest.

After a great exciting time around the valley of happiness at Tsum, our journey continues heading towards west around Manaslu route where the trail joins at a farm village of Lokpa and then enter the beautiful and scenic valley of Manaslu within farm villages in the shade of Manaslu high mountains to reach Sama-Gaon. The main village of Manaslu Valley of moderate size and witness local culture and custom of Manaslu people with strong Tibetan appearance in culture and way of life and the adventure continues with a steep climb to traverse over Manaslu Larke-La pass to reach Manang areas.

Detail Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching Kathmandu international airport received by our staff and guide with a warm welcome then transfer to your hotel in the centre of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed in your rooms join for group briefing regarding your stay in Nepal, where guides will provide information of the trek-local lodge-hotels-culture and other necessary information related to trekking.

Day 02:  Free day in Kathmandu trek preparation with the optional tour.

In Kathmandu free day preparation for Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trekking, and to observe Nepalese culture and traditions, where one can join in our options for a wonderful and interesting sightseeing tour on request.

Day 03: Drive to Soti-Khola 730 m via Arughat 570 m - 06 hrs journeys.

Around Manaslu and Tsum Valley trekking starts with an early morning drive to

Nepal Mid West, where the journey leads on main Nepal highway past many

interesting towns and villages with farms to reach Gorkha district in Arughat.              

From here continue drive following raging Buri Gandaki River upstream on warm-

low areas of paddy fields and terraces to reach at Soti-Khola for the first overnight

stop of the adventure.

Day 04: Trek to Machha-Khola 930 m - 06 hrs.

Beginning our first day walks from Soti-Khola, where our route takes you into a steep valley, within thickly forested areas past number of small villages that dots the green hillside, and then walking into a wide valley opposite near a large tributary stream that joins Buri Gandaki River.

Nice views of a cultivated terrace of Lapbesi upper village as our walk descends to a wide, sandy riverbed following a trail that meanders below a steep, craggy valley side.

As walk progress leading to a climb towards Machha Khola for an overnight stop, a village with a number of teashops and a small lodge, Maccha Khola means a Fish Stream.

Day 05: Trek to Dobhan 1,070 m via Tatopani (Hot Spring) - 06 hrs.

From here onward encountering many interesting farm villages and neat cultivated fields as  vegetation changes slowly due to altitude and climate-wise, as our morning walk leads to cross over a stream where Machha Khola (Fish stream) name comes from, and then walk upstream towards Khola-Bensi village with Tatopani a place with natural 'hot spring'.

As walk continues where valley becomes much narrow and steeper, where our trail switches to the left bank of the river and then crossing a suspension bridge, after a short period of walk entering a patch of forest and then reaching Doban located on the high shelf of Buri Gandaki River.

Day 06: Trek to Jagat 1,460 - 05 hrs.

Morning walk leads across a broad gravel field towards Lauri stream and then crossing suspension bridge which leads to a climb on high trails and then descending into the open valley of Yara Khola, where our journey continues on for another hour to the village of Jagat.

Jagat a nice looking farm village of moderate size after Arughat; people here with mix race Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhotia (Tibetan looking tribes) and some Newar people a lodge owner and shopkeepers.

Day 07: Trek to Lokpa 2,240 m via Philim 1,570 m - 06 hrs.

Walk from Jagat descends to long stone steps to reach a river, where path climbs on a terraced hillside at Saguleri, with distance view of Sringi Himal 7,187m, walk continue with ups and down the trail as our route reach at a bridge over Buri-Gandaki.

After crossing over a bridge where our trail winds up to reach at Philim village for short break and to observe this nice farm village with rich cultivated fields and terraces.

After a good refreshing stop at Philim, walk from here leads higher past scattered farm villages with a climb through terraces of golden fields of wheat’s and barley,  to reach a rocky ridgetop covered within bamboo forest area towards Eklai Bhatti means a lonely Inn, at present few more shops has been coming up.

After a rest walk towards Lokpa, where our route diverts toward North West to reach our overnight stop at Lokpa.

Day 08:  Trek to Chumling 2,386 m - 06 hrs.
After Lokpa village, walk heads to our first highlights of the adventure at Tsum known as the valley of happiness, as our route enters narrow gorge then with short descend and uphill climb into rhododendron and pine tree forest walking past small farm villages then climbing above Lungwa Khola to reach at Chumling village for first night stop around Tsum Valley.

Day 09: Trek to Chokan-Paro 3,010 m - 05 hours.

From here onward enter the new fresh country and away from main trekking trails of Manaslu as walk leads towards Tsum in the valley of happiness.

Walk further past farmlands and smaller villages facing views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal, as walk ends on reaching a nice village at Chumling for the overnight halt.

Day 10: Trek to Nele 3,361m after a visit of Milarepa cave - 07 hours.

From here onward walk leads within Tsum valley, as morning lead towards highest areas to Nele village around open and exposed wide valley, a dramatic dry and windswept terrain with similar landscapes like Tibet plateau.

Entering into a country where tree lines fade for short juniper and willow trees, as the journey continues overlooking views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal range of peaks.

Finally completing our day-walk reaching at Nele village with time to explore a meditation cave of great Buddhist saint ‘Guru Milarepa’ of the 11th century.

Day 11:   Trek to Mu Gompa 3,700 m - 04 hours.

Today a short walk to reach at the end our trip at Tsum Valley reaching Mu Gompa, with an old impressive monastery, walk leads to a climb within high, dry exposed terrain with views of high peaks then slowly walk ends on reaching at Mu Gompa for an overnight stop.

Day 12: Rest day at Mu Gompa visit local village and monastery.

A complete rest day where you can enjoy walking and exploring around the country, where only a few trekkers often venture this scenic and beautiful areas of Tsum Valley, witness its traditional village with the impressive ancient monastery of Mu Gompa, enriched with treasures of antique idols, statue and religious relics.

Day 13: Trek to Rachen Gompa 3,240 m - 05 hours.

After an interesting and exciting moment around high Tsum valley, walk heads to visit Rachen Gompa, as walk follows on gradual trail with short few ups and downs with a panorama of snow-capped peaks, heading into yak grazing summer pasture to reach Rachen Gompa and its moderate size village for an overnight stop.

Day 14:  Trek back to Chumling 2,386 m - 06 hours.

Return journey having a wonderful time at high Tsum valley, where walk leads

towards lower areas to Chumling where our route gets back into tall tree lines

and green vegetation at Chumling village this will our last and final overnight stop

within Tsum Valley area.

Day 15: Trek to Lokpa 2,200m - 06 hrs.

From here onward walk leads you back on the same trail to reach Lokpa where

trails of Manaslu and Tsum valley joins.

Day 16: Trek to Ghap 2,160 m - 05 hrs.

After a nice overnight stop at Lokpa, where morning walk takes you with slow elevation rise, as walk enters within Manaslu high areas, on the path with short downhill to reach a riverside at Bihi Bazaar a small village by the river.

From here on where you will soak into more Tibetan culture of the Buddhist religion, as our walk continues on a gradual path with few short ups and downs to reach at Ghap village for an overnight stop.

Day 17:  Trek to Lo-Gaon 3,180 m - 06 hrs

Morning walk from Ghap leads to much cooler region with increase of altitude gain, as our route leads higher areas and then with short downhill to a riverside to reach small farm villages and cultivated farm fields of barley, wheat and millets to reach Numrung village, continue to walk past Banjham, Lhi and Sho, then as altitude gains with an hour up to Shrip village to Lo Gaon a nice place with excellent views of Manaslu North Face.

Day 18: Trek to Sama-Gaon 3,530 m -05 hrs.

After Lo-Gaon tree lines fade only for some short juniper bushes and willow trees, walk on nice path facing views of peaks and finally, walk completes on reaching at Sama-Gaon for an overnight stop, one of largest village within remote North Mid-West Himalaya, located on route Manaslu base camp, Larke-la pass and to Tibet border.

Day 19: Trek to Samdo 3,690 m - 05 hrs.
After a pleasant rest at Sama-Gaon, today a pleasant walk of more than four hours to reach the last village of Gorkha and Manaslu valley at Samdo, morning walk starts with slow climb as elevation gradually gains with dry much air which makes walk slower than earlier past days, trading slowly taking time for short break to enjoy surrounding beautiful views of peaks and dramatic terrain.

With an exciting walk on the high valley of Manaslu and then reaching Samdo village taking a short climb to reach a small flat plateau where village located, a moderate size village of more than forty houses with about two hundred villagers living this high harsh country.

Day 20:  Trek to Larke Phedi / Dharama-Shala 4,470 m - 04 hrs.

On leaving the last final village of upper Manaslu valley, where walk leads to the

end of the valley facing incredible views of snow-capped peaks of Manaslu which

is also known as Kutang in the local language.

As walk continues crossing few icy streams to reach Larke Phedi means the bottom

of the pass, also called Dharmasala (travellers rest house/shade), wherein old

days which was also known as Larkey Bazaar.

At Larke Phedi afternoon free for short walks and preparations for next early

morning long climb to cross high Larke-La pass and to reach Manang areas.

Day 21: Cross Larke-La 5,215 m / 17, 110 ft trek to Bhimthang 3,790 m -07 hrs.

After Larke Phedi, morning walk leads to steep climb over moraine of rocks and

Boulders, following north of Larke glacier, with grand views of Cho Danda with

Larke Peak.

As walk progress with gradual ascent and much steeper to reach the top of

Larke-la festooned with thousands of Buddhist colourful prayer flags.

At the top marvel excellent panorama of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru and Annapurna II include series of Manaslu peaks.

From here a long descend reaching to a valley called Larcia, with a further hour

walks on moraine ridge to Tambuche at 3,900m, the bottom of the pass, and then a short walk leads to Bhimthang for an overnight stop after a long, tough day walks.

Bhimthang a lovely place located on a wide green valley with a number of lodges adorned with prayer Mani walls, the area surrounded by green tall trees of rhododendron-pines and oaks.

Day 22: Trek to Gho 2,760 m - 06 hrs.

From Bhimthang rest of the journey is much easier with downhill walks with some

a short climb on route to Gho and Dharapani villages, morning with views of peaks

heading with a gradual walk into thick alpine woodland.

Walking into beautiful forested areas to reach a small clearing in the midst of

woodland at Gho for an overnight stop, a small cattle and yak herders summer

pasture and temporary settlement due to trekkers passing this route, where few

the lodge has been built to cater to the needs of travellers.

Day 23:  Trek to Dharapani 1,725 m -05 hrs.

Today, the last day walk of this great adventure around Manaslu a pleasant and

leisure walks on downhill through the wooded country to reach Telje village, a nice

place by the raging Marysangdi River, with rest and stops last climb of the trip

from Telji after crossing a suspension bridge to reach large and nice lovely

Dharapani.

This village located on the junction of famous and popular Annapurna Circuit trail

and Around Manaslu Trekking route.

Dharapani located on a river gorge with lovely tree lines around where motorable

 has been constructed since the past few years, the village provides excellent lodges.

Day 24:  Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with a free afternoon.

After a marvellous adventure around Manaslu, completing our scenic walks taking

a morning dive from Dharapani following Marysangdi River for sometimes past

Tal Besi-Chamje and Jagat villages, downhill to warmer low areas back into paddy

fields to reach a large town at Besisar, the headquarter of Lamjung district.

From Besisar switching to another vehicle for the exciting overland journey to

Kathmandu, where drive leads past many farm villages and town, as our drive

joins the main highway of Kathmandu and Pokhara at Dumre town, from here on

easy and interesting drive to reach back to the city life of Kathmandu, with the rest of the

evening free at leisure.

Day 25: Depart Nepal for international flight home-ward bound.
Last day in the country of Himalayan wonders, after an amazing experience and wonderful memories around Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trekking, and then depart from the hotel as per your flight time our staff transfers you to Kathmandu international airport for your homeward flight or to next respective countries.

Essential Info

Seasons and Climate:
Where one can join for this treks nearly all months of the year except monsoon wet months from mid-June to mid-September.

March to May lively and colourful with rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) and other wild-flower in full bloom, most days are clear with late afternoon cloudy with cooler morning and night time. October to early November another best months to trek when most of the days are clear for views but with short sun-lights and much cold and freezing temperatures in the morning and night including shades away from sunlight,

with chances of snow sometimes during autumn times including early spring season.

I availed Buna Trek’s Kathmandu Valley One Day Sightseeing Tour and it was truly one of the highlights of my stay in Kathmandu. Rudra was a spectacular tour guide and knew the city and its history like the back of his hands. I particularly enjoyed Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa. The tour was well organized and leisurely paced. The transfer from my hotel to the sites and stopovers were seamless and Rudra was very accommodating and cheerful during the entire trip. Rudra even took the time to accompany in Thamel to explore the area’s nightlife and cultural show. I also got to taste authentic local cuisine as per Rudra’s recommendation, and the food in Thamel was nothing short of fantastic!
